Description

We are looking for an Engineer in order to fulfil the STRATOS Flight Controller position within the ESA ISS Flight Control Team (FCT) at the Columbus Control Centre, located at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) site in Oberpfaffenhofen/Germany.
The STRATOS Tasks are of two types: 1- On console tasks to be performed during shifts in the Columbus Flight Control Room; 2- Off line tasks to be performed in the Office during normal working time.
The STRATOS will be certified after a period of training lasting up to one year. The training will consist mainly of lessons, simulations on-console and training-on-the-job at the main site or on other ESA/NASA sites.

Candidate requirements

A University degree in an engineering discipline is required. Ability to work in a multinational team. Good communication, planning and reporting skills. Experience in Human Space Flight . Fluent in English, both in speech and writing Willingness to work on console during shift time System-minded and a team player Able to work in an interdisciplinary team Self-starter, able to work independently with little or no supervision

Planned activities

- On console tasks The main on console responsibilities of the STRATOS Flight Controller position consist of executing all daily operations related to the Columbus on-orbit Thermal Control (TCS), Environmental Control (ECLSS), Electrical Power Distribution (EPDS), Data Management (DMS) and Communications (COMMS) Systems, by performing the following tasks: • Executing commanding of all Columbus Systems to perform the required systems and payload support tasks • Monitoring the performances of the Columbus Systems • Coordinating on resource management, monitoring and control of the system to payload interface to the International Payload Standard Racks (ISPR) • Managing safety related functions like smoke detection and fire suppression - Off line tasks During normal working hours, STRATOS is preparing all operational products that are needed to execute the above-mentioned tasks e.g. procedures (Operational Data File (ODF), Operations Interface Procedures), Flight Rules, monitoring limits and command files, displays, Mission Flight Data Base (MFDB) and planning inputs. STRATOS is also participating in the Increment preparation process as well as interfacing with other operational parties, e.g. Columbus Flight Directors, Planning Team, Ground Control Team, Engineering Support Team, NASA FCT, other ESA
