Candidate requirements

Essential qualifications: • Master’s degree in Energy Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. • 2+ years of experience in solar cell development. • Strong understanding of the main solar cell technologies, including their components, materials, and fundamental working principles. • General knowledge of the manufacturing processes and equipment involved in solar cell fabrication. • Proven ability to conduct critical trade-off analyses between different solar cell designs, stack-ups, and technological approaches. • Fluency in written and spoken English. • A proactive, self-driven attitude with the ability to manage research and development tasks independently and contribute effectively within a team. • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills. Preferred qualifications: • PhD or prior research experience in solar cell development. • Familiarity with ECSS standards. • Experience with photovoltaic materials and devices testing. • Knowledge of the space environment and its effects on materials and photovoltaic device. • Hands-on experience with solar module assembly processes, such as cell soldering, interconnection, and lamination. • Familiarity with simulation tools for solar cell design and performance modeling.

Job description: We are seeking a motivated Photovoltaic Engineer to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team. This role is pivotal in spearheading the development and adaptation of novel solar cell technologies specifically for space applications. As Astradyne positions itself at the cutting edge of space power systems, you will investigate and advance the applicability of next-generation solar cells, contributing to the industry's transition towards more efficient and cost-effective solutions for the space market. As part of our engineering and R&D team, you will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from fundamental research and literature review to material selection, process optimization, prototyping, and performance validation for space environments. Key responsibilities: • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to identify and analyze current and emerging solar cell technologies, key industry players, and future trends relevant to power systems. • Critically evaluate promising solar cell technologies and material solutions for space applications, focusing on optimizing performance and durability. • Conduct tradeoff analysis on identified solutions. • Design, oversee, and analyze test campaigns for the characterization and validation of novel solar cell technologies under simulated space conditions, including the design of test coupons and critical review of test data. • Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including research findings, design specifications, test plans, and reports for internal and external stakeholders. • Actively participate in and monitor the manufacturing processes of solar cell assemblies, ensuring quality and providing technical expertise. • Collaborate with external partners, including research institutions, material suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and test laboratories.
